The Complete Guide To Printed Flags

Posted by Guest Author on 22nd October 2009

Introduction

When you think of the term advertising flags do you think of the crowds of people standing at the side of the road while the Queen goes by waving little flags like crazy? Well believe it or not, today paper flags are huge business! Can you believe our company makes millions of them every year for all sorts of organisations such as theatres, building societies, councils, garages, and estate agents not to mention charities and supporters clubs.

Also referred to as promotional flags, an advertising flag or a hand waver, they basically all mean the same thing: a custom printed flag for your event which everyone will want to wave!

Paper flags can be printed on one or both sides and are attached to a plastic stick so they can be held in the hand for waving in a crowd. These paper flags are colourful, attractive, and economical. They have become very popular, particularly over last few years, just try not to wave one as soon as it is given to you! I bet you won’t be able to help yourself!

Some of the great benefits of these printed paper flags as promotional items is that they are environmentally friendly, really cost effective to create, and everyone loves waving them. Compared to other much more costly branded products, gifts or marketing giveaways they are a real winner.

History of Paper Flags

Paper did not appear in the western world until the early 1300s so it would have been some time later that the earliest know form of paper flags were cut out of paper. These were usually religious in depiction and today, thousands of colourful cut-paper flags which depict various mythological and religious figures are manufactured in China for annual festivals. Can you remember when you were a child cutting rows of patterns, sometimes figures of girls or boys from folded paper? This is the handed down tradition of Scherenschnitte which is the German for “scissors” cutting, which is often translated as “silhouette” a practise which became popular in Austria in the seventeenth century. From this time a whole tradition of cut paper art has evolved around the world, such as the shadow puppets of Indonesia and the common tissue-paper flags of Mexico known as Papel Picado.

Current Usage

Children particularly enjoy waving flags during festivals, shows or exhibitions. Printed flags however are more commonly used today to advertise and promote sporting events, fund raising projects or special occasions. Promotional printed flags are a wonderful way of catching the eye and can be a successful way of advertising for any event. Colourful paper flags are attractive, economical to produce and ever popular.

One particularly imaginative use of a paper flag is to print them up with a discount voucher on one side that can be used for special offers.

Whether it’s the World Championship, the Premier League, or a local cup final, supporters with their paper flags, show their true team spirit. That is why paper flags for supporters are the top choice of some of the biggest clubs and soccer leagues in the world.

Paper flags are economical to manufacture and can be purchased at unbelievably low give-away prices. A huge selection of samples of paper flags are available as printers of paper flags will generally hold back a few items from each print run as samples. These will all relate to real world, fund raising campaigns, promotions, product launches, and sports teams events flags that have previously been commissioned.

There is a huge selection of designsto choose from for custom made promotional flags because the print area is flat and a set size. The only boundaries are an individual’s imagination (and the size of the flag too of course).

They can be ordered in various quantities required as they are usually quite easy to get hold of and simple to deliver.

Obviously paper flags are great for other promotional events, such as VIP visits, sales events and advertising. You can get printed flags with your own sales message or custom printed logo on one or both sides and they can also be used as promotional giveaways. A distinct advantage to using printed flags for different promotional events, is that they are very easy to produce in both large and small quantities at a very low cost. Because they are digitally printed there will be the best possible quality finish to the flags.

In Conclusion

I am sure very few people will have given much thought to small hand held flags until there is an occasion when they want to make use of them I mean it’s not generally the first thought you have when you wake up in the morning!. Then what happens? At one time people would have to go to a specialist store that stocked such things. Now they will probably look them up on the internet in Google(other search engines are available!). Such has our world changed. Buyers can even use their own designs. They can select from a vast range of ready prepared ideas available, into which their personal messages can be incorporated.

You might think that choosing recycled or environmentally friendly ad flags over normal paper flags will increase the price but you’ll be surprised to learn they can cost as little as 12 pence each.

So do not be restricted by the images of kids waving little flags while royalty go by, and see what exciting and differing promotional flag ideas you can come up with for your next promotional campaign.

Using Flash in Your Website

Posted by Guest Author on 21st October 2009

So you want to add flash banners to your website?

Well it really isn’t as complicated as you may think.

If you don’t already have a flash file, then search for a free one in any internet search engine. Just type in “free flash banner” and you should find one relatively quickly. The file that you will be using will have the extension *.swf.

Now upload the choosen *.swf file onto your file server, preferably into a directory that is relative to your webpage. Note the URL location of this file.

Next, you will copy and paste the following code into your webpage:

PLUGINSPAGE=”http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash”>

Finally, you replace the “flash.swf” part of your code with the URL of your newly uploaded *.swf file. After uploading your webpage, just refresh your screen and your splash banner
should appear in your browser.

Please Note:
You won’t likely see the splash banner through your html editor, but it will appear after you have published the webpage. You must also have the software installed in your web browser for flash to work. If you are having difficulty, please visit http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/ to make sure that you have installed the current Flash Player.

Also Important:
Note that there are width, and height attributes within the original code that we are using. You may adjust those attributes, currently at: width=1024, and height=240, to suit the needs of your flash banner. Another attribute that you can change is the background colour, which is currently set at: BGCOLOR=#000000, or Black.

Adding flash code to your website can be easy if your browser is configured right, and you have placed the correct URL to the actual *.swf, or flash file, where shown. Just remember to go in between the “parentheses.swf” with the file you are choosing to display on your webpage.

Hopefully you have created a flash banner that will animate accordingly, in browsers all across the world. One last recommendation: Check your finished product in more than one browser, to assure correct display.

The Post-War Housing Shortage}

Posted by Guest Author on 21st October 2009

The 1940′s Housing Boom}

Sometimes described in the post WWII years as `the housing shortage’, the Australian effort to address a very serious issue has over the years come to be called `the housing boom’. Without a doubt it was a boom in demand and activity. There was also a marked increase in home ownership, achieved in many cases through heroic individual effort and years of sacrifice.

Changing social conditions offered new opportunities, but also reduced the options. Emphasis in state housing social engineering was at first on rental accommodation; later there was a swing toward the sale of low-cost housing. At a time when various influencers had reduced the availability of rental dwellings, governments, banks, finance companies, building societies and housing co-ops were offering greater opportunities for home ownership. Ironically this was at a time of a rise in constuction input costs.

High on the list of factors linked to rising building costs were the passing of legislation for the 40-hour week, and marked increases in the cost of construction materials. By 1948 an employer had to pay an unskilled building worker a higher wage than a tradesman had received in early 1946.

To keep both labourer and tradie economically employed the builder needed a continuous flow of materials which was a rare event in those times. A shortage of skilled workers also meant lower quality work and a blow out in construction time.

Contract prices were loaded with an increasing profit margin as an insurance against unseen circumstances. Under commonwealth price control, builders were entitled to a 10 per cent `profit’ on the contract price. Above award payments were not recognised in price control and yet builders often found a need to pay above award rates to ensure house completion.

Unexpected costs could arise when, for example, timber flooring was suddenly unprocurable, and a higher price would then have to be paid for imported flooring material.

With locally made cement taking forever to turn up, a truckload from across the border was sometimes contracted at nearly three times the price. When compared to 1939 prices hardwood flooring had, by 1948, increased 100 per cent in value. Cement had risen by almost 20 per cent and terracotta roofing tiles by more than 25 per cent. A gallon of first-grade paint costing around 30s ($3) in 1939 had risen by 40 per cent by 1948.

When added to rising costs and shortages of materials the government restrictions, limiting the area of a new home to 1200 square feet (111.48 square metres) for a timber house and 1250 square feet (116.12 square metres) for one in brick, completed the recipe for an imposed austerity.

The economical floor plan was necessary; cost-saving and limitations on area made large single-purpose rooms a luxury. Verandahs and generous porches disappeared, reducing the shade at the front entrance to the absolute minimum. Ceiling heights had been slowly reduced from the turn of the century and were now typically nine feet (2745 mm). Until the government construction restrictions were lifted in 1952 the acceptance of no-nonsense functionalism was as much an imposed state as it was a fashionable philosophy. This was the era of the great Australian Dream.

Posted by Guest Author on 21st October 2009

Since we now better understand the nutritional properties of tea any extra way to add it to your menu is a plus. Another advantage of flavoring with Camellia sinensis is that it’s an capable technique to supply or enhance the taste of a meal without adding unenviable elements like fat, calories or sodium, that sometimes constitute a piece of other flavor enhancers.

Although cooking with Camellia sinensis might seem to be a new movement, it has really been about nearly as long as the beverage itself. The legendary wu long tea itself features a tale as vibrant and interesting as the people who discovered it.

The Chinese have been utilizing black tea to smoke and simmer dishes for centuries. The Japanese have been savoring a dish which is made by pouring green tea all over rice ahead of serving. The British British have been utilising Camellia sinensis to flavor tea patties and to stew dried fruit for years.

Green teas are able to add a pizzazz to silky desserts while they additionally tend to calm the tart flavor of a citrus fruit sorbet. Although aromatic teas such as chai are capable of imparting a pleasant flavor to full dishes such as cheesecake or icing.

A Short Overview in Advanced Obedience Dog Training

Posted by Guest Author on 21st October 2009

Advanced obedience is to a canine what returning down the toilet seat is to a man – it takes patient training but it is possible. Dog obedience training is among the most satisfying experiences between a dog and his master. You are not only doing yourself a favor; you are giving your animal a happier and fuller life. Obedient dogs are well-adjusted, self-assured and mentally quicker. You can be secure in it’s conduct even if you leave him alone with strangers.

The most important thing to remember in attempting to train your dog is to establish your position as the head in your relationship. When he understands that you are the top dog, so to speak, it is easier to [train|teach} him the commands he is expected to obey. Confusing the animal in this aspect can be risky; he will be assertive and strive to dominate you. Don’t overcompensate and be excessively harsh to show you’re the boss; be firm, keep your ground and fix this unfavorable trait as soon as you see it rearing its ugly head.

Make your leadership known by employing a strong and sure voice. As you say “Sit!” gently guide him in the said position firmly. You may have to go through several tries with each command, especially in the beginning. Progression from basic to more advanced obedience training is pretty much simple once your dog recognizes the patterns you’ve established in your teaching sessions.

Operant Conditioning is rewarding your animal with treats or accolades for correctly accomplishing the command. It is the single most useful way to train your pet; it’s what he understands. Applaud your dog each time he does what you say correctly. Sometimes, this is easy to overlook but take care not to. Dogs will get confused easily and recognizing good behavior every time will ensure that he remembers what is right.

Inversely, chastise the animal whenever he commits a mistake. Do it while he is making it and not when it is past so the dog will understand the error of his ways. Scolding him will also highlight the difference between what is right from what is [wrong|bad}. For instance, if he starts finding the suspicious looking dirt on the street interesting enough to eat, reprimand him as soon as he does it. Then put dog food before him to eat. When he starts eating his own set meal, be lavish in your praise.

To be able to see growth in dog obedience training, keep sessions short and as often as possible. Be repetitive in your commands. Don’t restrict training your dog during “school time” or set time blocks. Otherwise, he won’t want to study during the most part of the day.

Movie dogs awe you with the complexity of the stunts required of them. However, do remember that they all started with sit. Begin with the basics and climb your way up. With persistence and consistency your pet will advance to more challenging stunts like growl, leave it, fetch and attack. Use the same principles in how you trained him before and you will taste success in the more advanced levels.

Now that you’ve got working knowledge of a professional trainer’s guide to advanced obedience training for dogs, it’s about time to roll up your sleeves, get the happy dog and start training!

The best way to learn Italian

Posted by Guest Author on 21st October 2009

What is the best way to learn Italian? There is no single answer to this question. In fact, you have to use various strategies to succeed in learning this language.

One option is to travel to that country and then learn the culture. A lot of students do this by studying there and instead of living in the dorm, stay with a host family. This simulates your experience being with a real family like you do back home. As a result, awkwardness and shyness disappear and you are able to learn the language better.

On top of staying with a family, you can further your education about the Italian language by enrolling in a class. This is because the cost to learn the language there is much cheaper than it is to learn in the US.

If you can’t afford to leave the country, try to find someone in the neighborhood who can speak Italian and pay them to be your tutor. You can also rent Italian films, buy or borrow audio books from the local library if they have any.

A course on the Italian language is probably being offered at the local college so enroll in the program. Since you will have classmates just as interested in the language as you are, form a study group so everyone can practice and learn together in the hopes of becoming conversant later on.

During class, you won’t be the only one making mistakes. Your classmates will do so as well so learn from it.

For those who want to learn Italian one on one, there are many resources you can check out online. Some sites will require you to pay $500 or more for their course while some offer Italian lessons for free. This can be burned into a CD or uploaded to your MP3 player so you can practice it wherever you go.

Be aware though that there is only so much you can learn there and if you want to do better, you will have to rely on other resources like buying a dictionary.

Having the dictionary will allow you to learn other words which you have never taken up before. It will make more sense when you are able to put this in a sentence so take note of it. This will enable you to review it if you forget how to say it.

Correct pronunciation is important when you want to learn Italian because some words may look the same on paper but are different when they are spoken. So make sure you known the difference so you don’t offend anyone.

With all the support around you, the only thing you have to do now is practice regularly so you don’t forget what you have learned. It’s not going to be easy to learn Italian since you are starting from scratch but you will get the hang of it as long as you determined.

It is good to learn Italian because you can use it not only in Italy but also in other countries in Europe like Switzerland, Albania and France. You can use it the next time you go around the neighborhood when you visit the local shop or restaurant. So don’t you think it is worth learning?

Treadmills vs. Ellipticals – Which is Better?

Posted by Guest Author on 19th October 2009

The top two types of cardiovascular fitness machines that are currently the most popular are treadmills and elliptical machines. The fitness equipment manufacturers are adept at touting the benefits of their machines and fitness experts add their opinions, which can often result in much confusion for people when trying to decide between treadmills vs. ellipticals. Both of these kinds of fitness machines are common fixtures at health clubs and there are many models that are specifically designed for home use.

If comparing treadmills to ellipticals, you will find that treadmills have been on the market for decades and is therefore more widely known, is more commonplace, and also currently has a larger following of users. But, this could change soon because ellipticals are quickly becoming the favorite of many fitness-minded people and many are either adding an elliptical trainer to their selection of exercise equipment, or they are replacing their treadmill in favor of an elliptical exercise.

Because of this shift in fitness thinking, it would be advisable to take time to do some research and delve into additional information in order to do a comprehensive evaluation of the treadmills vs. ellipticals question. Everyone has different goals for their fitness equipment workouts, so the results of the evaluation will also depend on what you want to accomplish through your fitness machines exercise routine.

One of the first things that people learn when they compare products, is that a workout on an elliptical fitness trainer is virtually impact-free. Because of the fact that your feet stay in contact at all times with the large foot pedals of an elliptical machine, there is no jarring impact against a solid surface as there is when your feet hit the deck of a treadmill. This means that the joints in your lower body, from ankle to hips, are relieved from the jolts and stresses that come with a workout on treadmills.

The cushioning that is provided through the belt and deck of a treadmill is much easier on your joints than walking on cement or asphalt, but there is still a great deal of wear and impact on your knees, hips, ankles and the structure of your foot. The impact is much greater for joggers and runners. Over time, this stressful impact can cause numerous body problems and possible injury.

However, when comparing the treadmills and ellipticals, it needs to be pointed out that the treadmill fitness machines do provide for much better training for runners and joggers than with an elliptical. If you are training to run a marathon, but cannot train outside during some months of the year, a treadmill is a better choice for obvious reasons.

When it comes to looking at the efficiency of cardiovascular workouts, the elliptical machines exercise delivers a better, more effective overall cardio workout than treadmill equipment does. With a good quality crossover elliptical trainer, you will have dual action handlebars that work your arms at the same time that your legs are exercising. Treadmills only focuses on working your lower body through the actions of walking, jogging or running.

Fitness enthusiasts also want to know how calorie-burning effectiveness compares with a treadmills vs. ellipticals. Once again, the ellipticals win in this regard. During an elliptical exercise machines workout, the muscles of both the upper body and the lower body are engaged and working at the same time, resulting in more calories being used up. So, even though the impression is that you are putting out less effort during an elliptical workout, because there is virtually no impact on your body, the exercise is really very effective for burning calories and fat.
