Ant Problems in Chorley, Preston and Leyland.
Ants in the house are the scourge of many folk in summer leaving many people to fear the summer and the annual flying ants invasion which they expect the summer will bring
Only the unfortunate people who have suffered it will realise the true effects of flying ants in their own homes.
Having an infestation of plain old wingless ants is bad enough but when they go through their yearly mating phase the position can become unbearable.
Ants often form colonies in the sub-floor areas and in the wall cavities of our buildings and these colonies will live for many years to come if left untreated and become progressively more troublesome every year.
Our dwellings are warm and dry and provide the ideal places for a thriving ant colony; even solid asphalt floor is not a barrier to and ant colony.
Our central heating systems raises their metabolism even in the winter months and my earliest ant call-out was on my birthday, which is in January!
Ants like a sandy soil and there are many areas in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester which have more ant callouts than others, Southport, Blackpool, Bolton, Sale & Altrincham come to mind as regular ant areas.
Unfortunately it is during their mating phase that they are most irksome. Here in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester this often is pretty often around the middle to end of July.
Ants mate in flight and sometime around mid-summer the colony releases winged immature Queens and flying males which in nature would fly off and mate in the air. Many thousands of these winged ants are produced from each and nests tend to synchronise their release so that they mate with ants from nearby colonies.
Often this process starts after a few of days of hot, dry weather and will often last for about a week although smaller releases will carry on throughout most of the summer.
Unfortunately when the colony is under the floor of the dwelling the results can be horrifying, literally thousands of winged ants are produced into the lower rooms, collecting on windows as they go towards the light.
This can be unbelievably upsetting for some people leading to severe emotional distress to the extent that people learn to loath the summertime and have actually sold their homes to escape the plague of ants which they know comes each summer.
The wet summers of the last three years have meant that ant problems were down on the preceding but ants seem to have a way of catching up and 2010 could possibly be a particularly troublesome year.
Most people who have this problem attempt for DIY solutions with potions from hardware stores etc but mostly these efforts do not work as they are not getting to the heart of the matter which is the colony itself, securely hidding safely in the cavity wall or sub-floor area.
Fortunately for many people the solution is at hand.
At Harrier Pest Prevention (subject to site survey) we are able to remedy this problem and give an extendable 3 year guarantee.
The treatment which is done mainly from the outside of the home, is totally safe for animals and children and produces no smell, involves drilling small holes into the cavity walls of the property, not unlike a damp-course injection and blowing a long lasting insecticide into the cavity wall under pressure.
This forms an uncrossable barrier through which the ants cannot go and along with a precautionary internal spray treatment (if deemed necessary) will slowly bring the problem to its end.
The holes, which are only 8mm in diameter stay open so it is an easy matter of topping up the cavity walls every 3 to extend the effectiveness of the guarantee in 3 year periods.
This procedure is best carried out in the early spring however it can be done at any time of year.
As a strictly limited time offer before our busy period begins we are offering 25 percent off the normalstandard cost until May 30 2010. Whilst we normally cover the whole of Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, we are willing to venture further afield but this will be at extra cost.
