One thing that Dick Page hadn’t tried in his 10 years of doing makeup for Michael Kors’ shows: red lips. To add a fresh twist, he paired the retro look with bronzy cheeks. Page filled in the models’ lips with Shiseido The Makeup Smoothing Lip Pencil in Siren ($20) and Perfect Rouge Lipstick in Dragon, followed by clear gloss for no-goop shine.

Twisted updo

At Carolina Herrera, Orlando Pita stuck pins (try Goody ColourCollection Bobby Pins, $4, at drugstores) around models’ heads, then twisted hair up and inward over them. He secured it with more pins, rolled up the back, then blasted the hairspray.

Metallic plum eye shadow

Tardif’s must-have at Erin Fetherston’s show: Bobbi Brown Bobbi Brights Eye Palette. He dusted gold shadow onto eyelids and smudged a plum shade above the creases, extending it out into a V. Next came more plum along the top and bottom lash lines and lots of mascara.

Silvery eye shadow

This season’s looks-good-on-everyone trend: icy eye shadow. Backstage at Vera Wang, makeup artist Lucia Pieroni mixed two cool shades from the Clé de Peau Beauté Eye Color Quad in #14 to get just enough sparkle. For more intensity, use a wet brush.

Sexy pale lips

To get the pretty, mod lip color I spotted at Diane von Furstenberg, makeup artist Gucci Westman thought outside the tube. “These lips aren’t achieved by lipstick alone,” she confided. Westman mashed up and mixed together Revlon Matte Lipstick in Pink Pout, Revlon Matte Eye Shadow in Vintage Lace and Revlon Kohl Eyeliner in Pure White . The result: sexy, not chalky.

Beautiful messy bun

This is not your average ballerina bun. For roughed-up texture at Tracy Reese, stylist Nathaniel Hawkins pulled the models’ hair into a ponytail, spritzed on Tresemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer and then made a braid. Next, he shook the braid to “free up the loose layers” and twisted it into an imperfect knot.

Pink and bronze blush

At Tracy Reese, Mally Roncal told me her best blush advice: Think sexy and sweet by mixing pink and bronze. She blended her Get Cheeky! Dewy Blushes in Dawn and Ipanema from models’ temples down to the apples of their cheeks in a C shape. To make it not so innocent, she added dramatic false lashes.
